Cp-Carrillo's fastener assembly lube is molybdenum based lubrication grease with enhanced properties.
This product offers an improved clamp load repeatability, greater resistance to high pressure and temperature (range -22f to 1200f), and no oil contamination. The coefficient of friction stays unchanged, even after several connecting rod bolt re-tightening and loosening processes.
We highly recommend lubricating the connecting rod bolt head and thread with this lubricant.
Be sure to add it to your order if you are replacing your rod bolts.
Engine Cylinders / Liners / Pistons
Design911 supplies a complete range of engine cylinders, liners, and pistons engineered for precision, durability, and performance across all Porsche models. These components form the core of the combustion chamber and play a critical role in power delivery, fuel efficiency, and long-term engine reliability. Whether restoring a classic air-cooled engine or rebuilding a modern water-cooled unit, Design911 provides OEM-quality and performance-enhanced solutions to ensure your engine operates at its peak.
What These Components Are
Cylinders / Liners
- Engine
cylinders or cylinder liners form the sealed chamber where
combustion occurs.
- Air-cooled
and early Porsche engines often utilise Nikasil-coated aluminium
cylinders, while modern engines may use wet liners or plasma-coated
bores.
- They maintain precise clearances and heat distribution to ensure smooth piston movement and optimal compression.
Pistons
- Pistons convert combustion energy into mechanical force that drives the crankshaft.
- High-quality
piston sets include matched rings, gudgeon pins, and circlips,
designed to maintain sealing and withstand high temperatures and loads.
- Available in OEM replacements, oversized repair pistons, and performance forged variants for tuning or race applications.
What They Do in the Engine
- Create the compression needed for efficient combustion
- Seal the combustion chamber with piston rings
- Maintain controlled friction and lubrication
- Support optimal engine temperature and pressure
- Transfer combustion energy to the crankshaft
Collectively, these components determine the engine’s horsepower, torque, emissions, and long-term durability.
Why Engine Cylinders, Liners & Pistons Fail
Porsche engines—especially high-mileage, high-performance, or poorly maintained units—can suffer from a range of issues:
Common Failure Causes
- Scoring
/ Bore Damage: Lack of lubrication, contaminated oil, or debris
- Piston
Ring Wear: Loss of compression, increased oil consumption
- Overheating:
Warped cylinders or broken piston lands
- Nikasil
/ Alusil Breakdown: Chemical or mechanical wear of the cylinder
coating
- Detonation
/ Pre-Ignition: Piston crown damage from improper fueling or timing
- Age & Mileage: Natural wear of piston skirts, rings, and cylinder surfaces
Why They Should Be Replaced
Replacing worn or damaged cylinders, liners, and pistons
restores:
- Compression & engine efficiency
- Fuel economy & power output
- Reduced oil consumption & exhaust smoke
- Smoother engine operation & reduced noise
- Long-term reliability & protection from catastrophic failure
Performance-minded owners also upgrade to forged pistons and precision-machined liners for improved strength, heat management, and durability—especially in turbo or track-focused builds.
