The 2013 model year introduced the all-new 981 Cayman, featuring significant advancements over the 987. Many of these new technologies had already debuted in the 991 and 981 Boxster, marking a year of substantial updates.
The base engine was a 2.7ltr flat-six producing 236hp, paired with a standard 5-speed gearbox. An optional 7-speed PDK gearbox was also available.
The 981 Cayman showcased design cues reminiscent of the Carrera GT, including blacked-out headlights and deep door recesses leading to forward-facing air intakes in the rear quarter panels. The side mirrors were now attached to the door skins, enhancing the Carrera GT feel. The front and rear retained the classic Cayman look but featured sharper, more aggressive headlights and air intakes with new LED daytime running lights.
Inside, the Cayman offered sport-bucket seats and a driver-oriented dashboard. It retained the classic 5-dial instrument cluster and offered an optional high-end Burmester sound system specially tuned for the Cayman.
