Cayman 2.7L 987C 2006-08

A year after the 987.1 Cayman S and the second-generation Boxster debuted, Porsche released the non-S version of its mid-engine sport coupe. Despite being slower than the S, the regular 987.1 Cayman could still go from 0 to 100 kph (0-62 mph) in 6.1 seconds, making it a capable daily-driver sports car.

The Cayman was powered by a 2.7ltr flat-six engine with Porsche's VarioCam Plus management system, ensuring higher torque at low revs and decent fuel efficiency for a 245hp engine. It came standard with a 5-speed manual transmission, with a 5-speed automatic (Tiptronic) available as an option.

The 987.1 Cayman was designed to be both fast and practical. It featured two luggage compartments, one in the front and one behind the engine, offering a total of 410 liters (14.5 cu-ft) of storage—enough for a week's vacation for two. The car's round headlights were inspired by classic models like the Porsche 550 Coupe and 904 Coupe, and the side air intakes in front of the rear wheels helped cool the mid-mounted engine.

Inside, the Cayman offered seating for two, with an interior layout similar to the Boxster II. The instrument cluster and other components were shared with the Boxster, and the seats could be upholstered in either leather or fabric.
