Solid engine mounts are a smart upgrade to any track or aggressive street car, and were installed on Porsche factory race cars. Stock mounts are made of compliant rubber, and contribute to imprecise shifting and inferior throttle response. Solid mounts create slightly more interior vibration than rubber mounts, but securely connect the engine and transmission assembly to the car's unibody, creating a crisper throttle response and shifter feel. Rennline's solid mounts are CNC machined from 6061 aluminum for strength and light weight, and come as a pair with new Grade 8 mounting hardware. Sold as a set of (2)

Why Replace It, Engine mounts are crucial for:

  • Locating and supporting the engine
  • Absorbing vibration and engine torque under acceleration, braking, and cornering
  • When this mount deteriorates or fails, you can expect, Increased vibration transmitted to the cabin, steering, or pedals
  • Clunks, bangs, or loud noises during acceleration, deceleration, or gear changes from engine movement against the chassis
  • Visual signs such as leaking black fluid from the mount, sagging of tailpipes (due to dropped mounting), or visible damage to rubber or metal components

Common Failure Causes

  • Age-related rubber degradation: over time, rubber hardens, cracks or de-bonds, causing loss of damping and allowing engine movement
  • Fluid leakage (hydraulic version): loss of damping fluid due to seal failure accelerates failure
  • Fluid contamination: oil, coolant, or other contaminants degrade the rubber material
  • Vehicle abuse or stress: aggressive driving, hard launches, or previous accidents can warp or break mounts
  • Worn or cracked brackets: even if the rubber is intact, the aluminium bracket can be damaged or corroded, reducing effectiveness

What This Product Does:
  • In a uniball (spherical bearing) design, the elastic rubber center is replaced (or augmented) with a metal bearing that allows rotation and articulation but eliminates flex / deflection.
  • This gives a much more direct mechanical interface—engine motion under load is significantly reduced compared to rubber alone.
  • Because the spherical joint has very low compliance, the mount becomes much more rigid in the direction of torque / twist (longitudinal / rotational direction) while still permitting the required articulation in other axes.
  • This variant is often preferred for track, clubsport, or dedicated performance cars where precision and rigidity matter more than comfort.

Symptoms Of Worn Or Failing Engine Mounts:
  • Excessive Engine Movement - When accelerating, decelerating, or cornering, you may notice the engine rocking or shifting more than normal.
  • Clunking or Knocking Noises - A distinct thud, clunk, or metal-on-metal noise when shifting gears or during abrupt acceleration/deceleration indicates the mounts are no longer isolating movement properly.
  • Vibration in the Cabin or Steering Wheel - As the mount deteriorates, it loses its ability to absorb vibration from the engine.
  • Poor Gearshift Precision - Engine movement causes slight misalignment in the drivetrain, which can result in imprecise or “notchy” gear changes.
  • Unstable Handling or Driveline Feel - Excessive engine movement shifts the vehicle’s center of gravity and can create a “loose” or unsettled feeling during hard cornering or braking.
  • Visible Wear or Fluid Leaks - The original Porsche mounts are hydraulic on many 964/993 models; when they leak fluid or collapse, engine support is compromised.
  • Rattling or Exhaust Misalignment - Worn mounts allow the engine to sit lower or twist, which can cause contact between the exhaust system and underbody components, leading to rattling or vibration noises.

Why This Upgrade Version Matters:
  • Maximum Rigidity / Minimal Deflection — virtually no unwanted movement, giving optimal drivetrain alignment and responsiveness.
  • Sharper Response & Consistency — throttle, shifts, and engine behavior are more direct because the engine is “locked down.”
  • Better Repeatability — especially in motorsport, lap after lap the behavior remains consistent.
  • High Load Handling — in high torque / high cornering environments, the mount retains its shape under stress.
  • Precision Feel — the driver senses a closer mechanical connection, improving control feedback.

What This Product Does:

  • This is a high-density (HD) rubber engine mount in the RS / sport style, intended as an upgraded or stronger replacement to the standard mounts offered on Porsche 964 / 993 models.
  • The “65A Shore rating” refers to the hardness (stiffness) of the rubber material. A Shore A of 65 gives a balance: firmer than the softest mounts, but not excessively rigid, aiming to deliver improved engine control without too much harshness.
  • It is often used as a pair (one on each side of the engine) to replace worn or softer factory mounts.
  • The RS style mount replaces or upgrades from the factory hydraulic or softer mounts.
  • In practice, what it does: it helps secure the engine more rigidly to the chassis, reducing unwanted engine movement (twist, yaw, vibration) under load (acceleration, cornering, braking). It helps maintain drivetrain geometry, gives crisper throttle response, and improves shift feel.

Symptoms / Signs Of A Failing Or Worn Engine Mount:
  • Excessive Engine Movement / “Engine Rocking” - The engine may shift or rock under throttle or when revving, particularly during hard acceleration, deceleration, or rapid load change.
  • Clunks or Thuds / Transmission “Bump” During Engagement - When shifting gears, especially from neutral into drive or reverse, or when applying throttle from idle, the drivetrain may “bump” or thud due to slack from the worn mount.
  • Misalignment / Drivetrain Strain - Because mounts help maintain alignment between engine, gearbox, and driveshafts, a failing mount can cause misalignment, leading to extra stress on coupling joints, CVs, or mount brackets.
  • Increased Vibration or Harshness - You may feel more vibration through the cabin, floor, or pedals, especially under load.
  • Noise - Metallic rattles or clunks if the engine is loose enough to hit against brackets or the chassis.
  • Rubber Deterioration / Visible Damage - Cracks, splits, or separation in the rubber portion of the mount.

Why This Upgrade Matters:
  • Upgrading to the RS-Style Engine Mounts (65A Shore Rating) transforms how your Porsche feels on the road. Standard factory mounts are designed for comfort, but over time they soften and allow excessive engine movement, which dulls throttle response and gear changes. The RS-spec design uses a firmer 65A rubber compound, originally developed for Porsche’s Rennsport (RS) models, to deliver sharper, more connected driving dynamics without adding harshness.
  • With these mounts installed, your engine and gearbox stay properly aligned, improving stability under acceleration, cornering, and braking. You’ll experience crisper shifting, reduced vibration, and improved handling precision, especially during spirited or track driving.

What This Product Does:
  • Support the engine / transmission assembly, holding it in position relative to the chassis.
  • Isolate vibration and noise, so that engine shake doesn’t overly transmit into the cabin.
  • Control motion under load, resisting twisting, torque, or movement during acceleration / braking / cornering.

Symptoms Of Failing / Weak Engine Mounts:
  • Excess engine movement or shift under acceleration or deceleration
  • Clunks, knocks, or bangs when shifting or when the engine “settles”
  • Increased vibration, especially at idle or low RPM in the cabin
  • Misalignment of driveline (axles, driveshaft, transmission) under load
  • Premature wear on exhaust, wiring, hoses — anything connected to the engine that gets stressed when it moves

Why Upgrade To HD RS 75A Mounts:
  • Sharper Throttle & Shift Response - Stiffer rubber minimizes drivetrain lag and flex.
  • Reduced Engine Twist - Keeps drivetrain geometry stable under load.
  • Improved Handling Balance - Less movement means more predictable chassis behavior.
  • Enhanced Durability - 75A compound resists collapse and fatigue over time.
  • Track-Tested Feedback - Ideal for RS conversions, spirited driving, or track use.

About Engine Mounts

Engine mounts, also called motor mounts, are critical components of your Porsche, securing the engine to the chassis and absorbing vibrations during operation. Traditionally, rubber has been the go-to material for these mounts, but polyurethane is gaining popularity due to its enhanced performance and durability compared to rubber.

Polyurethane motor mounts excel at absorbing vibrations, ensuring a smoother and quieter ride, benefiting both driver and passengers. Although they are initially more expensive than rubber mounts, their longer lifespan makes them more cost-effective over time, reducing maintenance and replacement expenses.

In high-performance vehicles like Porsches, motor mounts face extreme stress, vibrations, heat, and pressure. Uprated polyurethane motor mounts provide additional benefits by limiting engine movement, enhancing engine stability during acceleration and gear shifts, and offering improved gear engagement, thus protecting gearboxes and shafts.
