Spring Plate
Upgrade the rear suspension of your Porsche 924 or 944 with this premium adjustable spring plate set. Sold as a set of two (left & right), these plates replace the standard fixed spring plates on models from the era 1978-85 (924 & 924 Turbo) and 1982-85 (944). Featuring an indexing mechanism, they allow ride height and torsion bar preload adjustments without major disassembly. Whether you’re restoring your car, fitting lowered suspension, or tuning for performance, this set provides improved rear stability, consistent geometry under load and easier setup.

What This Product Does:
- On torsion-bar rear suspensions, such as those fitted to the 924/944 era Porsches, the spring plate mounts the torsion bar end to the rear axle or body-subframe and helps set ride height and preload of the torsion bar.
- The “adjustable” version means that the plate includes a mechanism (often splined or stepped indexing) that allows the torsion bar end position (and thus ride height / preload / corner balance) to be changed more easily than the stock non-adjustable plate.
- It allows for more precise setting of ride height and corner balancing (especially useful for lowered setups, performance handling upgrades or restoration).
- By maintaining correct torsion bar index and mount condition, the rear suspension geometry remains stable under load, improving handling, ride quality, and tyre wear.
Symptoms & Signs You Might Need This Set:
- Rear ride height is incorrect, uneven (left vs right) or difficult to adjust — especially after replacing torsion bars or springs.
- The rear end feels loose or vague in corners, or geometry seems to shift under load – indicating the torsion bar mount may be compromised or mis-indexed.
- Tyre wear on the rear is uneven or excessive on one side or edge, suggesting rear geometry is not being maintained.
- If you have lowered the car or changed the torsion bars, but still cannot achieve expected ride height or balance without disassembly — an adjustable plate simplifies the task.
- On inspection you may find the original plates are corroded, the indexing marks are worn, bolts seized, or the plate has no adjustment capability.
Why Replacement / Upgrade Matters:
- Improves handling precision: With an adjustable plate you maintain correct ride height and torsion bar preload, which helps the rear suspension respond properly to cornering, braking and load.
- Facilitates setup and tuning: If you’re modified (lowered, wider tyres, stiffer springs) or restoring, an adjustable plate makes ride height correction much easier and more repeatable.
- Restores structural integrity: Older spring plates may be worn, corroded or lacking adjustment — replacing them renews the mount and ensures the torsion bar functions optimally.
- Better tyre wear and alignment retention: Proper indexing and mount condition reduce geometry drift, meaning longer tyre life and better consistent handling.
- Value and restoration: For classic 924/944 models, having correct suspension hardware can increase confidence and resale value.

These thrust bearings are a welded steel construction with electrogalvanized and powder coated finish. They connect the rear axle tube to the body. After the years, the original thrust bearings are usually worn out and porous. There are no original replacements, and thus an overly spongy rear axle is a problem on many 924-968s.
This rigid version is suitable for both street use and motorsports.
Its advantages:
• Wearless design
• More directly guided rear axle and therefore less spongy handling.
• Elimination of rumbling noises due to worn out rubber thrust bearings.
• Excellent build quality
Thanks to the design, installation is possible without removing the rear axle!

What This Product Does:
- In the torsion-bar rear suspension of these vehicles, the torsion bars anchor into spring plates. These spring plates mount to the axle / housing and transmit torsional load into the chassis.
- The spring plates also allow indexing of torsion bar preload and set ride height (among other geometry considerations). By using adjustable spring plates, you gain more flexibility to fine-tune ride height and corner balance without removing the entire torsion bar or axle.
- A good adjustable set ensures that the rear suspension’s torsion bars, spring plates and bushings work together properly so that the rear axle remains located, ride height remains correct, geometry remains stable, and the car handles as intended.
Symptoms Of Wear, Failure Or Need For Replacement:
- Rear ride height issues — one side lower or higher than the other, or difficulty achieving correct height, which can be due to worn or non-adjustable plates limiting the adjustment range.
- Rear handling instability — e.g., vague rear end, geometry shift under load, degraded cornering feel, which may result from worn or inadequate mounting of the torsion bar ends.
- Excessive play or movement at the spring plate mount: the plate may be warped, the bushings collapsed or the indexing mechanism worn, leading to loss of precision.
- Previously lowered or modified suspension — if you’ve changed springs, lowered the car, or altered ride height, the stock spring plates may not offer the adjustment you need; an adjustable set is beneficial.
- Visual inspection: bushings may appear deformed, cracks or corrosion present on plate, plate cover area not concentric around torsion-bar end, or the mounting bolts are difficult/risky to remove due to age/corrosion. (General wear symptoms from spring plate bush kit commentary)
Why Replacement / Upgrade Matters:
- Geometry and ride height control: The rear spring plates are a critical mount point for the torsion bars and ultimately influence ride height, axle location and suspension geometry. Upgrading or replacing them restores full adjustment capability.
- Handling performance: If plates are worn or non-adjustable, you lose precision in tuning ride height or preload, which can degrade handling (especially in rear-heavy or performance-modified cars). An adjustable set brings that tuning back.
- Reduced wear and improved durability: Many OEM plates are decades old; replacing them with modern adjustable units ensures the assembly is fresh, has better materials/finish, and lasts longer.
- Modification friendly: If you’ve lowered the car, widened track, changed torsion bars or springs, an adjustable spring plate set offers the extra range needed to achieve correct setup without undue compromise.
- Value & restoration quality: For classic 924/944 vehicles, using high-quality adjustable spring plates shows that suspension integrity is addressed — which aids usability, performance and possibly resale.

OEM Spec Spring Plate Bushings
A true OEM spec bushing replacement for spring plates.
Spring plate bushing condition can be accessed by looking at the hole is the spring plate cover. It should be concentric around the spring plate. When the bushings deform, the cover becomes non-concentric around the spring plate and in extreme cases actually contacts the cover plate – metal-to-metal.
More than just bushings, this is a full kit that includes inner and outer bushings (4 pcs), adhesive, instructions and abrasive cloth to prep the surface.

What This Product Does:
- On a torsion-bar rear suspension setup (as used by these Porsche models), the spring plate is the component that anchors the torsion bar end and transmits its twist into the chassis. The bushings in the plate allow rotation under load while isolating vibration and preventing metal-to-metal contact.
- Over time, the bushings can deform, compress or degrade, which leads to increased movement of the spring plate, changes in ride height or alignment, and poorer handling. The kit replaces this mounting bush to restore proper behavior.
- By installing the fresh bushings, the rear torsion bar and spring plate regain correct movement, maintain ride height, reduce noise and preserve rear suspension geometry under load (cornering, acceleration, braking).
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
- Clunking or knocking noises from the rear over bumps or during load transitions, indicating movement in the spring plate or mount.
- Rear sagging or inconsistent ride height, especially on one side — due to bushing collapse or excessive compliance.
- Rear end feels vague or loose in corners, or the suspension doesn’t behave as sharply under load.
- Uneven tyre wear on the rear due to shifting geometry under load.
- On inspection: the spring plate cover hole is no longer concentric around the bar (the bushings have deformed) or you see metal-to-metal contact between plate and cover.
Why Replacement Matters:
- Restores suspension geometry integrity: fresh bushings help the torsion bar and spring plate mount maintain correct positioning, ensuring alignment and ride height are as intended.
- Removes unwanted rear suspension movement: by replacing worn components you regain sharper handling, better driver feedback and improved ride quality.
- Eliminates noise and harshness: degraded bushings can lead to audible knocks, excessive vibration or an imprecise feel — replacing them brings back refinement.
- Supports other suspension upgrades: if you’ve upgraded springs, bars or tyres, having new bushings ensures nothing in the rear mount is holding back performance.
- Prevents secondary wear: when bushings are worn, other rear suspension components carry extra load or misalignment, accelerating their wear; replacing the kit reduces that risk.
