What This Product Does:
- In a torsion bar suspension, the torsion bars provide springing by twisting under load, and the spring plate is the mount that anchors and supports the torsion bar end, controls ride height, and maintains alignment of the bar mounting.
- An adjustable spring plate allows for ride-height or corner-balancing changes by indexing or re-positioning the torsion bar mount. The “closed type” design improves durability and sealing of the mounting area.
- The zinc plating adds rust/corrosion protection, especially important in older cars with exposed suspension components.
- By maintaining correct mount geometry, the spring plate ensures that the torsion bar works within its intended range, the rear axle remains located correctly, and the chassis retains its handling characteristics.
Symptoms & Signs Of Wear Or Needing Replacement:
- Ride height is inconsistent or cannot be set accurately — e.g., rear is lower or higher than specification, even after index adjustment.
- Rear axle movement, clunks or knocks from the rear suspension when the car is driven over bumps — indicating play in the torsion bar mount or plate.
- The torsion bar mount area shows visible corrosion, fatigue, or deformation of the plate or its mountings.
- Suspension geometry (camber, toe) drifting under load or cornering — because the torsion bar mounting is loose or shifting.
- Difficulty in re-indexing torsion bars or keeping ride height consistent. The adjustable feature may be worn or seized.
Why Replacement / Upgrade Matters:
- On early 356 cars these parts are old and often have corrosion, fatigue, or alignment issues from decades of use and environmental exposure. Replacing the spring plate restores structural integrity.
- An Adjustable + Zinc-Plated + Closed type unit offers several advantages:
- Adjustable for ride height or corner balancing if you’re restoring or modifying the car.
- Zinc plating for corrosion protection extends lifespan.
- Closed type design better seals the mount area, prevents debris ingress and offers improved durability.
- Correct ride height and suspension geometry are critical for handling and tyre lifespan — a compromised spring plate undermines these.
- For restoration projects, retaining or improving original design intent with quality parts is essential for driving feel and value.

Change Torsion Bars and Adjust Ride Height
QuickChange spring plates make fast-work of torsion bar re-indexing and replacement.
Screw-type adjuster makes corner balancing and ride height adjustment a breeze. Pairs the high quality of the factory design with ease of servicing.
Setup is fast and easy
If you've ever re-indexed torsion bars to correct ride height, you can really appreciate the benefits of QuickChange.
Used in combination with our QuickChange Torsion Bars and Polybronze bearings, this spring plate allows rapid replacement or re-indexing of torsion bars.
• 5 minute torsion bar changes
• Fast and easy ride-height adjustment
• Accepts standard bushings
QuickChange Torsion Bar Changeout
QuickChange Torsion Bars can be extracted through the QuickChange Spring Plate without removing any bolts. Alignment settings are maintained. You don't even need to remove the wheel from the car. Changing torsion bars is a 5 minute per side operation!
Unlike other aftermarket spring plates, QuickChange Spring Plates bolt the plates together. This prevents the plates "halves" from sliding against each other and eliminates failures and metallic clicking noises common with competing products.
Can be used with any torsion bar and bushing that fits factory spring plates – not included – however QuickChange Torsion bars and PolyBronze Bearings are required to use torsion bar extraction features.
356 used two different systems of of spring plates, cover plate, bushings, and torsion bars
Pre-A, C and CS chassis:
Came equipped with 553mm long torsion bars. Cover plates have no center hole and a 4-nub style bushing. Spring plates have a short "tube" section that is not visible when installed because it does not pass through the cover plate. Outer bushings are larger 48mm Id and inner bushings have a smaller 45mm ID.
Polybronze may be used on these spring plates by fashioning a sleeve for the spring plate to increase its diameter to 48mm, and converting to a round bushing type coverplate.
Alternativley Elephant Racing Polybronze, QuickChange spring plates, and Torsion bars can be used on these cars provided all 4 components (torsion bars, cover plate, spring plate, bushings) are converted together.
A and B chassis:
Came quipped with 627mm long torsion bars. Cover plates have a hole in the center. Spring plates have a visible "tube" section that passes through the cover plate. Both inner and out bushings are larger ID about 48mm.
Elephant Racing Polybronze, QuickChange spring plates, and Torsion bars are all designed for direct fit with this combination.

Want to experience precision driving, faster lap times, improved road feel and feedback?
Our patented PolyBronze suspension bearings set a new standard for performance, ride quality and ease-of-installation. Regular polyurethane/plastic suspension bushings are obsolete!
PolyBronze is a precision bronze bearing encased in a polyurethane jacket. The combination delivers a smooth-ride with the extreme performance of a metal bearing.
✔ No Squeaks
✔ Smooth ride quality
✔ Easy installation
✔ Integral Grease fittings and grooves
Why PolyBronze Bearings Are Superior To Plastic Bushings
Suspension mounts are coarse sheet metal pressings. They tend to be out-of-round and have irregularities that deform ordinary polyurethane bushings, pinching and binding the friction surface. Polyurethane is “grippy” with an inherently high coefficient of friction and combined with pinching polyurethane bushings create a lot of friction. The result is a harsh ride and reduced tire adhesion.
PolyBronze have a rigid bronze bearing core that does not deform. The polyurethane jacket absorbs mount irregularities while the bronze inner bearing remains true, providing a free-moving machined-fit that rides on a precision race. Provided grease fittings make re-lubrication a breeze and a figure 8 groove keeps grease in place.
The combination delivers zero squeaks and friction-free suspension movement. Well suited to street or track, ride quality.

Ensure your classic Porsche’s torsion-bar suspension remains quiet, stable and correctly aligned with this rubber sleeve. Designed for Porsche models such as the 356 A/B, this sleeve features a seating rim for precise positioning and helps isolate torsional loads while maintaining correct mount geometry. A critical yet often overlooked component in torsion-bar systems, this replacement sleeve restores proper bar support, reduces noise and ensures ride height and suspension behavior.

What This Product Does:
- The sleeve cushions the torsion bar where it passes through or mounts to the chassis or spring plate. Because torsion-bars twist under load, this sleeve helps reduce metal-to-metal contact, absorb vibrations or harshness, and maintain correct bar location and alignment.
- The “with rim” detail likely means it has a flange or rim that seats against a plate or bracket, ensuring correct fit and preventing movement of the sleeve out of position.
- By keeping the torsion bar isolated and aligned, the sleeve helps maintain correct ride height, suspension behavior, and prevents unwanted noise, wear, or alignment shifts due to a loose or worn bar mount.
Symptoms & Signs Of Wear Or Failure:
- Clunks or knocks from the rear (or whichever end the torsion bar is mounted) when going over bumps, indicating the torsion bar is moving within its mount.
- Loss of ride height or inconsistent ride height, because the torsion bar may not be seating properly.
- Increased vibration or harshness being transmitted from the torsion bar area into the chassis or cabin.
- Suspension geometry changes / alignment drift, because the torsion bar may shift or twist out of its correct location.
- Visible rubber degradation — cracking, splitting, flattening, or the rim/seating portion being damaged. On inspection you may see the sleeve has collapsed or the rim no longer seats properly.
- Over time, rubber components like this sleeve degrade from age, heat, load, UV exposure and the twisting action of the torsion bar. A worn sleeve compromises the mount of the torsion bar and therefore the overall behavior of the suspension.
- Especially in older vehicles or restorations, replacing such small components is critical to preserving the integrity of the suspension system rather than just chasing obvious wear points.
- For classic Porsche owners maintaining these older torsion-bar systems, ensuring these sleeves are in good condition means you’ll keep ride height correct, less unwanted movement, better durability, and fewer secondary failures (e.g., as the bar shifts it may overload other bearings or mounts).
