Description
When newly-appointed Porsche MD, Peter Schutz, saved the 911 from extinction in the early 1980s, he immediately began reversing the lack of investment in model development. The first new arrival was the 911 Cabriolet, the first convertible Porsche in eighteen years. Then came the 3.2 Carrera, a car that Schutz had even bolder plans for… The 356 Speedster was an early Porsche hero. Bought in droves by young US airmen serving in Europe and brought home to America, Schutz adored the Speedster’s lightweight sports theme and wanted a 911 version. A prototype was developed in 1986, and the car was launched at Frankfurt in 1987.
The following year, Carrera 3.2 Speedster's went on sale to a rapturous reception. With most Speedster's built on the Turbo-look widebody chassis with Turbo brakes and suspension, the Speedster’s curvaceous form, with shaved windscreen and clamshell rear cover stunned onlookers, while the elegant, low-profile soft top had Porsche play a bespoke-built trump card.
Reputed to be one of just 64 UK supplied RHD ‘Turbo Look’ examples, this Silver Metallic Speedster is something very special indeed. With a rich and detailed history consisting of over 20 visits to Official Porsche Centre’s for services with all supporting invoices and paperwork, every one of the sub 20,000 miles on the odometer can be verified! Incredibly this example has just 3 registered keepers since first being registered over 30 years ago. Furthermore, this particular Speedster is even more special due to it having featured at the 1993 Earls Court Motor Show as part of the 30th anniversary celebrations of the 911!
