• This spring mounts on the throttle mechanism and provides return force, retracting the throttle valve (or linkage) when the accelerator is released.
• Provides tension that ensures the throttle valve doesn’t stick or hang open, which maintains safe and predictable engine operation.
• Helps maintain consistent throttle response and prevents the linkage from going “over-center” (which could cause the throttle to stay open).
With age, the spring can weaken, fatigue, deform or corrode, reducing its ability to pull the throttle shut securely. Proper replacement restores crisp throttle response, safe idle return behaviour, and reliable drivability.
Using a matching (OE Match) spring ensures correct tension, length, hook geometry, and compatibility with the carburetor’s original design.
