Product Information
Thrust Ring For Steering Shaft Bearing.
The Porsche Thrust Ring for Steering Shaft Bearing is a genuine OEM replacement part used in the steering column assembly of classic Porsche models, including the 356, early 911, and 912. This precision-machined ring supports the steering shaft bearing, keeping it properly seated and aligned to ensure smooth steering performance.

Fits:
  • Porsche 911 1965-1968 2.0L / 912 SWB (F)
  • Porsche 356B 1959-63
  • Porsche 356C 1963-65

What This Product Does:
It fits into the steering column or shaft bearing set-up. The ring provides a location or surface against which the steering shaft bearing or bearing springs rest or are supported. It ensures the correct alignment / positioning (thrust) of the bearing shell so that the steering shaft rotates smoothly without excessive vertical play.

Symptoms of a Failing / Missing or Damaged Thrust Ring:

If this ring is worn, missing, mis-shapen, or installed incorrectly (or the bearing support it interacts with is worn), you may notice:

  • Play or looseness in the steering shaft (vertical or axial movement) — the wheel might feel less solid especially when you move it up/down or back/forth.
  • Clunking or knocking noise from the steering column when going over bumps or turning, due to the shaft bearing not being supported properly.
  • Vibration or steering vibration that seems to come from the steering column or intermediate shaft area.
  • Possibly steering misalignment or uneven feel if the steering shaft is not held precisely in its correct position.
  • Over time, wear on other components of the bearing or shaft, because without proper thrust support they might rub or move in ways they shouldn't.

Why Replacement / Correct Function Matters:
  • Ensures that the steering shaft bearing is properly seated and supported, which preserves smooth rotating action and minimises play.
  • Prevents premature wear of the steering shaft bearing or surrounding components.
  • Improves steering feel: less noise, better precision, no unintended play.
  • Helps maintain safety: steering components that are loose or play-filled are less predictable in their response.
  • Using the correct Porsche OEM part ensures fit, material, dimension — avoiding misfitting parts that might introduce more play or wear.
