What This Product Does:

  • The suspension nut secures the strut mount at the top of the shock absorber/strut assembly (commonly where the strut rod passes through the strut mount at the top of the strut-tower).
  • It ensures that the strut (and thus the spring/damper) remains firmly attached at the top mount location, holding the relative positioning of the strut to the chassis/strut tower.
  • Being a correct OEM nut means correct thread, correct material/hardeness, correct torque specification and compatibility with the mount parts, lock washers or locking features.

Why Replacement Matters:
  • Safety & structural integrity: A loose or improperly torqued strut top nut can allow the strut mount to move or shift, which compromises the suspension’s secure attachment to the chassis. This can lead to unwanted movement, misalignment or even failure under load.
  • Ride quality & handling: The top mount of the strut affects how the suspension behaves under load. If the nut is loose or the mount isn’t held securely, you may get clunks, creaks, top plate movement, steering imprecision or increased noise. Replacing or confirming this nut ensures the mount is properly clamped.
  • Part of correct service: When servicing or replacing struts, mounts, bearings or top mount assemblies, replacing the nut (often a single-use or recommended torqued fastener) is good practice. Failing to replace can leave a weak link in the suspension.
