Porsche 993 1995-98 (requires ADAPTORKIT01)
Porsche 996 Turbo 2001-05 (6-speed Manual transmission)
Please note: this part has been changed by Porsche and you may require adaptor kit for plug connector.
Replacement crankshaft position sensor also known as an impulse or pulse sender. The crankshaft position sensor continuously monitors the rotational speed and position of the crankshaft as it spins. This information is transmitted as a signal to the engine control unit (ECU), which uses it to control key functions like ignition timing, fuel injection timing, and engine speed cues. Without a properly functioning sensor, the ECU may not be able to accurately time spark and fuel delivery, which can cause poor performance, rough idling, misfires, or failure to start.
The crankshaft position sensor is vital to engine management accuracy. If it fails or generates inconsistent signals, the ECU may not be able to properly time spark and fuel delivery, leading to:
• Poor engine performance
• Stalling, rough idle, or hesitation
• Hard starting or no-start conditions
• Fault codes related to timing or crank sensor errors
Replacing a worn or failed sensor restores accurate rotational feedback to the ECU, helping maintain engine drivability and reliability.
Replace the crankshaft position sensor if you notice:
• Engine misfires or rough idle
• Stalling or limp performance
• Engine won’t start but cranks
• Diagnostic codes related to crank position
• Inconsistent tachometer readings
