In many modern engines, the valve cover also integrates parts of the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) system, including the PCV valve itself. This design helps manage crankcase pressure and ensures proper ventilation of engine gases for optimal performance.

Common Engine Valve Cover Failure Symptoms

• ·         Aging and Wear: Over time, valve cover gaskets can harden, shrink, or crack, leading to oil leaks and burning oil smells coming from the engine.
• ·         Improper Installation: Uneven torque or incorrect gasket placement during installation can cause leaks and sealing issues.
• ·         Material Fatigue: Constant exposure to high engine temperatures can cause plastic or metal covers to warp or crack.
• ·         Blocked PCV Valve: A clogged PCV system can cause excess crankcase pressure, potentially damaging the valve cover or gasket.
