Standard Size Crankshaft (STD)
The standard size (STD) engine crankshaft is an essential rotating component for the early air-cooled Porsche models.

Fits:

  • Porsche 911 1965-1968 2.0L / 912 SWB (F)
  • Porsche 911 1968-1973 2.2L / 2.4L / 2.7L RS LWB (F)
  • Porsche 914-6 2.0L (1970-1976)

These first-generation air-cooled flat-six engines rely heavily on the strength, balance and accuracy of the crankshaft to deliver the smooth, free-revving performance that made the classic 911 legendary.

Whether performing a true-to-original restoration or a full bottom-end rebuild, this crankshaft ensures proper bearing clearances, smooth rotation and the reliability required to support both naturally aspirated and early turbocharged Porsche engines.

What the Crankshaft Does

This crankshaft plays a central role in engine operation by:

  • Transforming piston movement into rotational torque to drive the transmission

The parking brake cable is a critical mechanical element of the vehicle’s handbrake system. If the cable is worn, overly stretched, corroded or incorrectly fitted, common issues include:
Loss of parking brake holding force or slipping on incline
Excess travel in the handbrake lever before engagement
Uneven brake wear or incomplete release causing dragging
Safety risk during parking or in emergency braking situations

Replacing the cable ensures proper handbrake operation, restores confident stopping/holding ability and protects against unwanted mechanical failure.

When to replace:
The lever engages only after several clicks or feels weak
The original cable shows visible external damage (rust, fray, broken outer sleeve)
Rear brake shoes/pads are replaced and the handbrake linkage is exposed
Vehicle is undergoing restoration and original cables are aged or suspect

Applications: Ideal when the original cable shows signs of fraying, corrosion, excessive stretch, or when replacing the cable as part of a handbrake system overhaul on a classic Porsche 356.

The parking-brake cable is a vital mechanical link in your vehicle’s safety and convenience systems. When the cable is stretched, corroded or damaged, you may experience:
 Reduced parking-brake holding force
 Excess lever travel before engagement
Uneven or inadequate brake application on the rear wheels
Cosmetic, mechanical or corrosion damage at the cable ends or sheathing

Replacing the cable with a correctly unit ensures:
  Reliable and consistent parking-brake performance
Accurate lever travel and symmetric action
•  Restored mechanical integrity of the braking subsystem
•  Improved safety for both road and stationary divisions of vehicle use

When to consider replacement:
The parking-brake lever engages only after excessive clicks or seems weak.
Visible corrosion, fraying or outer sleeve damage on the original cable.
Cable has been reused many times or under-maintained.
During restoration of a classic Porsche 356 where original hardware is aged or absent.
